Bug Moon

I was excited to hear that we were going to have both a “Super Moon” and a Total Lunar Eclipse yesterday evening (September 27, 2015).  The last one was in 1982 and the next occurrence in our region will not happen until 2033. I did a bunch of research and preparation work to get ready for this historic and monumental event. Then, clouds moved in and ruined the photo opportunity. So, I struggled to find another moon image that was equally as impressive and settled on this bug moon shot.

I took this image while shooting landscapes and Texas Wildflowers at Pedernales Falls State Park near Austin, TX earlier this year.  As I knelt to shoot this Silver Puff, I noticed this little Aphid on top and tried to get a frontal view but he kept turning. So, I thought this was a good opportunity to shoot a bug mooning.

This image was taken with my Canon EOS 5D Mark III using my Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro lens. The camera was set on Manual mode with the aperture set at f/5, shutter speed at 1/125 and ISO at 100. I lit the subject with my Canon MT-24EX Macro Twin Lite Flash.  All processing was done in Lightroom.
