The nursery rhyme goes something like “The itsy-bitsy spider climbed up the water spout. Down came the rain and washed the spider out.” This one, however, was on my garage door. I spotted him when I went out to do some work in the yard and immediately went inside to get my gear. He stood very still while I took a half-dozen shots. This is a great example of depth of field. You can see that his head is in focus but his his torso, back and front legs are out of focus. This spider was about 8-10 mm wide so I had to use my “super macro” lens to capture this full image. I set my lens at 5X magnification and hand-held the camera as using a tripod was impossible. If you look closely, he has two sets of eyes on top of his head and I’m sure he was looking intently at what was going on…
This image was taken with my Canon EOS 5D Mark III using my Canon MP-E65mm f/2.8 1-5x Macro lens set on 5x. The camera was set on Manual mode with the aperture set at f/8, shutter speed at 1/160 at ISO 100. I also used my MT-24 Macro Flash to light the spider. This is a single-shot image Vs. focus stacked images as noted in another posting.
