Majestic View

I made a visit to the Grand Canyon National Park in March of 2013.  I have visited the park on numerous occasions and I’m always overwhelmed by its grandness.  What a beautiful place!  The canyon walls detail very well what lies below our feet.  The colored layers showcase the various minerals that make up the geological formations in this area.  The canyon, carved for centuries by wind and water, is home to the Colorado River.  The canyon itself is 277 miles long, 18 miles wide in some areas and up to one mile deep.

This image is from the Yavapai Point on the south rim. The spot is located a short walk or drive  from the visitors center.  The haze was not as bad this time so I was able to capture better images than normal.  The crowds were quite large during the visit and the number of buses and tourists seem to rise exponentially each time I visit.

    1. That’s great Tom. It’s a wonderful place. I like shooting in the middle of the day there because it’s all lit up. If you go early/late you have some huge shadows cast across the canyon. I like to use google maps and see the pictures that everyone else has taken. That along with the photographer’s ephemeris should get you to the right spots.
